Clothes in New Orleans
Ever wonder why those no t-shirts, no jeans, no tennis, no fitted hat rules always apply to you? Because you are black and the owners of that particular establishment are not black, nor do they want you to be there. If ever you look into a young black man’s closet what do you see? Fitted caps, Jordan’s, whatever brand of street clothes he prefers, and maybe a few “dress clothes”.

Do you know who this man is? Philip H. Knight (born February 24, 1938) is an American billionaire, co-founder and Chairman of Nike, Inc.. He resigned as the company’s chief executive officer in 2004, while retaining the position of chairman of the board. As of 2007, Knight’s 35% stake in Nike gives him an estimated net worth of US$9.8 billion, making him the 30th richest American.[1]
Think of all the money you yourself may give him every year. While he is sitting pretty in his billions you are fly as shit …and struggling to survive. By struggling to survive means: How many times this summer alone have you been out of the country on vacation? How nice of a house do you have? Better question..did you have your home destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and the Blue Eyed Devil (in the form of their poster-boy Bush) then had no home in this world until FEMA said they “MIGHT” help? Have you ever thought to yourself “If gas wasn’t so high nowadays…” ? Then You Are Struggling.
Ever seen this man driving a Chrysler300? Ever seen him in a NIKE outfit even? You are paying him to exclude yourself from valuable opportunities! When has his T-shirts, tennis shoes or sweatbands gotten you anywhere in life? Don’t tell me because you are an athlete, his clothes doesn’t not transform an ordinary person into an all star on no day. I pray the African American community wakes up and realize that instead of paying this man for a shoe, you save, and start a company of your own.. why not spend money on securing your future or the future of all the kids your having? I am here to tell you all that even YOU reading this can start and run a successful business, or earn a career where you and your family are secure most happy. What you wear does not establish your worth black people.
The problem here is not THAT you buy these things from the white-man but WHAT you buy. T-shirts and fitted caps should not be you entire wardrobe. There is a time and place for that.
Who the hell decided that the dope-boy on the corner of America St. was also the poster-boy for the entire city of New Orleans anyways? (No offense to the dope-boy who could “bust a cap off in my ass” at any moments notice, but I’m sure he stopped reading this when he realized I was talking about not buying useless and fly clothing) Honestly who decided that boys had to wear long white tees, baggy jeans, and a fresh pair of G-nikes to be accepted?
It really angers me to know that most black people would rather buy this CRAP they don’t need, go to the same clubs every weekend, holla at the same broken-down hoes and niggas that don’t want anything from life, instead of saving and traveling around and seeing the world they live in. For what? To smash? To take the risk of contracting something or someone? Aids is on the rise down here in New Orleans..wanna know why?!?!? Because everyone wants to sit around and fuck! Get Tested.
What will you do with your life? Really think about it because there will come a day when you WAKE UP and become CONCIOUS to the world you were brought into and how it personally affects you. I hope and honestly pray you don’t wake up to late!
This trend needs to end!
